The ideal candidate will drive cost optimization, budgeting, forecasting, chargeback/show back, and cross-functional stakeholder alignment to support enterprise cloud strategies. This role requires a strong blend of financial acumen, cloud platform knowledge, and operational leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish and manage the cloud financial operations (FinOps) function within large or federated organizations.
- Define and implement chargeback/showback models tailored to business unit or program consumption patterns.
- Advise on FinOps operating models, KPIs, dashboards, and best practices for cost transparency and accountability.
- Design and maintain dashboards and reports using AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management, Google Cloud Billing, and tools like CloudHealth, Apptio, CloudCheckr.
- Build forecasting models and budget tracking processes aligned with enterprise or agency cloud strategies.
- Monitor and analyze usage, commitments, discounts, and anomalies to enable proactive cost management.
- Collaborate with engineering, finance, procurement, and application owners for efficient resource planning and usage.
- Provide CSP contract management support, including pricing analysis, commitment planning (e.g., RIs/Savings Plans), and usage optimization.
- Educate stakeholders and develop training materials to build internal FinOps awareness and capabilities.
- Identify savings opportunities through rightsizing, scheduling, reserved capacity, container/serverless strategies, and architecture redesign.
- Implement and enforce tagging strategies, cost allocation rules, and data governance for accurate spend visibility.
- Ensure policy compliance and alignment with internal standards for budget controls and financial guardrails.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Information Systems, Cloud Computing, or a closely related field required.
- 8+ years of progressive experience in IT financial management, cloud financial operations (FinOps), or enterprise cost governance.
- 3+ years of direct experience managing cloud cost optimization and forecasting across AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI, or hybrid/multi-cloud environments.
- Manage FinOps functions and implement chargeback/showback models.
- Design cost dashboards and reports using AWS, Azure, GCP, or tools like CloudHealth and Apptio.
- Create forecasting models and track budgets for cloud strategies.
- Work with engineering, finance, and procurement teams to optimize cloud resources.
- Support cloud service provider contracts with pricing analysis and usage optimization.
- Advise on FinOps best practices, KPIs, and operating models.
- Identify savings through rightsizing, scheduling, and architecture improvements.
- Implement tagging strategies and cost allocation rules for spend visibility.
- Train and educate stakeholders on FinOps processes and tools.
Preferred Skills:
- FinOps Certified Practitioner or FinOps Certified Professional (FinOps Foundation).
- AWS, Azure, GCP, or OCI cloud certifications (e.g., Cloud Practitioner, Billing & Cost Management).
- CGFM (Certified Government Financial Manager), CPA, or similar (optional).
- ITIL v4 Foundation or relevant service management certification.
